An example of folklore that has been in my family for a long time has been one that occurs at Thanksgiving. In my family, the father of the house always says grace at Thanksgiving dinner. My grandfather did it for his family when my father was young, and now my father has been doing it for as long as I can remember. Maybe someday, I too will carry on the tradition of the father of the house saying grace.
This personal folklore is a representation of my worldview because it explains our belief in the Christian religion, and our faith in the American culture. We all hold hands, and thank God for everything he has blessed us with. Thanksgiving is an American tradition shared my millions. It creates a time of unity, and our participation in it adds to that feeling of being united with the rest of the country. Our participation in Thanksgiving shows our American pride.
This can also kind of relate to the idea of a nuclear family. The father figure saying grace at the table, a sign of dominance, and then that being passed down to the sons of the house.
Overall, it's an example of folklore from my family that might someday be bestowed upon me. Hopefully, I will have the oppurtunity to keep the tradition going.
